Spain has started three days of mourning after a serious train crash on Wednesday morning. At least 68 people died, and many others were hurt. The crash happened near Toledo. One train was going from Madrid to Seville. It hit another train that had stopped on the railway line.
The stopped train had 147 people on it. A computer problem made it stop. Another train, with 397 people, then hit it from behind. Some train cars fell down a hill, and one caught fire. Rescue workers used strong lights, drones, and helicopters to look for people. Police are also helping families find missing relatives.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said all of Spain feels great sadness. Officials are now trying to learn why the control centre in Madrid told the trains to move again without making them go more slowly. Some people protested outside the Transport Ministry and asked Sánchez and Transport Minister Óscar Puente to leave their jobs. Train drivers also plan to stop work on Thursday because they want safer railways.
