A man drove a white van into a crowd at a Pride event in Berlin, Germany. The attack happened at about 10 p.m. on Saturday. One woman died, and at least 29 people were hurt. Some people also had knife wounds. The event was in Tiergarten park, near the Brandenburg Gate. Hundreds of thousands of people were there.

Police found the van after it hit a tree. They said the driver was Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German man from a Lebanese family. Police found him in west Berlin on Sunday. They said he ran at officers with a knife, so they shot and killed him. Police also said he had supported the Islamic State group and had tried to join it before.

German officials think this was an Islamist terror attack. Police are studying the van and the suspect’s past. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the attack very evil. Leaders from other European countries also spoke about the attack. They said people should be safe when they join Pride events and show who they love.
