US President Donald Trump has announced a 50% import tax on many goods from Canada. The tax will start in 30 days. It will cover products such as wine, hockey sticks, and cement. It will not cover energy, potash, important minerals, or fish.

Trump says Canada does not treat US cars, milk products, and alcohol fairly. The US already has taxes on Canadian steel, aluminium, copper, wood, and some car parts. Canada also has a 25% tax on some US steel, aluminium, and vehicles. Trade between the two countries is important because many companies make products in both places.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says the new US tax breaks the trade agreement between Canada, the US, and Mexico. He says Canada is ready for more talks with the US in the next few weeks. Canadian leaders may also keep their limits on US alcohol until the US removes some of its taxes.
