Gabriela lived in Ecuador with her daughter. She had a good job and a normal life. But gangs started to threaten her family, and her daughter’s grandfather was killed. Gabriela was very scared, so she left Ecuador and went to the United States with her daughter.

In the United States, Gabriela asked for asylum. Many people from Latin America do the same because they are afraid of gangs. But it is very hard to get asylum. The law in the United States does not always help people who run away from gangs. Many people wait a long time for an answer, and they feel afraid every day.

Gabriela and others like her want to live in peace. They work hard and follow the rules. They hope the United States will let them stay, because they do not want to live in fear. They want a safe life for themselves and their children.
