Spain is sending soldiers to Ceuta, a Spanish city in North Africa. On Thursday, thousands of people swam from Morocco to Ceuta. They went around a wall in the sea at the border. Spanish reports say 2,000 to 3,000 people entered the city. At least 15 people died in the water.

Ceuta is on the coast of Morocco, but it is part of Spain. It is also part of the European Union. Many people try to enter Ceuta because they want to reach Europe. The city’s centres for migrants are now full. Local leader Juan Jesús Vivas asked the Spanish government for help. Spain says its soldiers will help border police and keep the city safe.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez plans to visit Ceuta on Friday. He says he wants life in the city to return to normal soon. Spain does not yet know why so many people crossed at the same time. Italy may bring back checks for people coming from Spain. Spain says European countries should work together instead.
