A court in Nigeria said that Nnamdi Kanu is guilty of terrorism and other crimes. The judge gave him four life sentences. The judge did not give him the death penalty. The court said that Kanu made radio talks to ask people to fight and hurt others. He wanted a new country called Biafra in the south-east of Nigeria.
Nnamdi Kanu said he did not do these crimes. He did not want to talk in court. He was not in the court when the judge gave the decision because he was not calm. Many police were at the court because some people support Kanu. Kanu started a radio station in 2009 to talk about Biafra. He also started a group called Ipob. The government said Ipob is a terrorist group.
Kanu was first arrested in 2015. He left Nigeria after a military attack on his house. Later, the police caught him again and brought him back to Nigeria. Some people in the south-east of Nigeria like Kanu, but not everyone wants a new country. Many people in this area feel the government does not help them.
