The Conservative Party has won the election in British Columbia, Canada. The party won 64 of the 93 seats. Its new leader, Lorne Doerkson, will become the next premier. This is the party’s first win in the province in almost 100 years.
Doerkson became party leader only a few weeks before the election. He is 58 years old. He first won a seat in 2020. He was once a rodeo announcer and a newspaper owner. He plans to make it easier for forestry and mining companies to get permits. He also wants the province to produce more natural gas.
David Eby was the premier before the election. He led the New Democratic Party, or NDP. He called the election two years early because he wanted more seats. But the NDP won only 27 seats, and the Green Party won two. Eby said he was responsible for the loss and left his job as NDP leader.
