Musk says US may control limits on Ukraine’s drones

Elon Musk said the US government may control new limits on some Ukrainian weapons. Ukraine uses SpaceX’s Starlink system to connect drones to the internet. On Tuesday night, the system stopped working for weapons moving faster than 100 mph (160 km/h). This caused problems for Ukraine’s military.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky asked for the service to work again. He said the limit might be a technical problem. Musk said the US government controls Starshield, a military system from SpaceX. He said the US military and the US president decide its limits. The US government has not spoken about this.

The service started working again in part by Wednesday evening. Ukrainian officials asked Musk to remove the full speed limit. The problem came during a large Russian attack on Ukraine. The attack killed people and damaged power and communication systems. About 600,000 people lost electricity. Ukraine says it needs the service to guide drones and protect its cities.
