Binance says hackers took $6.3 billion in crypto money

On Thursday, Binance said hackers took digital money worth $6.3 billion (£4.7 billion). Binance is the world’s largest company for buying and selling crypto money. The company stopped about half of the stolen money from moving. The hackers still hold much of the rest. Binance said it will pay back all customer losses.

Binance said the hackers may have entered a company engineer’s laptop. They then moved the money without permission. Two research groups, TRM Labs and Chainalysis, think a North Korean hacker group called TraderTraitor did the attack. They say the group may also have stolen $1.5 billion from the Bybit crypto company in 2025.

The hackers still have a very large amount of the money. Binance and police will try to find them and get the money back. Western countries say North Korea uses stolen crypto money for nuclear weapons and missiles, but North Korea says it does not carry out these attacks. The hack affected Binance.com, but it did not affect Binance.US, the company’s smaller service for people in the United States.
