Airbnb has changed its rules for hosts and guests. The new rules start for trips booked on or after 20 November. Hosts can use seven standard house rules. They can also add other fair and simple requests.

Hosts cannot ask guests to do hard cleaning work. For example, they cannot ask guests to take sheets off beds, wash and put away dishes, or take rubbish to another place. Guests already pay a cleaning fee. Hosts can make special requests when there is a good reason, such as asking guests to use less water during a drought.

Airbnb will show house rules more clearly before and during a trip. Hosts cannot ask guests to pay a fine. If a request breaks Airbnb’s rules, the company will tell the host. The host can ask Airbnb to check the decision again. The change follows many complaints from guests about long cleaning lists.
