US President Donald Trump faced several problems in Washington in recent days. A close ally, US Attorney Jeanine Pirro, dropped charges against former Olympic athlete David Hearn. Officials had said Hearn damaged the Reflecting Pool near the Washington Monument. Pirro later said the damage came from bad building work, not from Hearn. Trump did not agree. He said Pirro gave up too easily.

Trump also had trouble with his choice for attorney general, Todd Blanche. Republican senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis joined Democrats to stop his nomination. They wanted Blanche to reject a plan for a $1.8 billion fund. The fund could pay people who said the government treated them unfairly, including people charged after the 2021 Capitol attack. Blanche later gave the senators the letters they wanted. Trump said he still wanted the fund.

Trump also faces problems with the US war against Iran. He said Iran asked for talks, but Iran denied new direct talks. Many Americans do not support the war. Recent polls put Trump’s support at about 33%, but he says these polls are wrong. US voters will choose members of Congress in three months. The result may show if these problems are hurting Trump and the Republican Party.
