Two senators now support Todd Blanche for attorney general

Two Republican senators now say they will support Todd Blanche as US attorney general. Thom Tillis and John Cornyn had refused to support him before. Blanche now works as acting attorney general. He was also President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer.
The senators changed their minds after Blanche ended Trump’s plan for a $1.8 billion fund. The fund could have paid people who faced court cases after Trump supporters attacked the US Capitol on 6 January 2021. Some of these people attacked police officers. Blanche signed a written order that said the fund did not exist. He also said special tax protection would cover only Trump, his two sons, and the Trump Organization.
A judge had already stopped the fund, and Democrats and some Republicans did not support it. The Senate Judiciary Committee may vote on Blanche’s job on Tuesday. Tillis and Cornyn now plan to support him. This could help Blanche get enough votes to become the permanent US attorney general.
