Trump links Saudi nuclear deal to Israel

US President Donald Trump said Saudi Arabia must accept Israel as a country before it can get a nuclear energy deal with the US. He said this after the two countries announced the deal on Wednesday. Trump also said Saudi Arabia cannot make richer uranium. Richer uranium can help make nuclear weapons.

Trump wants Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords. These are agreements between Israel and some Arab countries. Saudi Arabia has not answered Trump’s statement. It is also not clear if this rule is in the written nuclear deal.

Some US politicians and nuclear experts worry that the deal could help Saudi Arabia make nuclear weapons in the future. The US Congress will now check the deal. The International Atomic Energy Agency may also check Saudi nuclear sites to make sure the country uses nuclear energy only for peaceful work.
