A wildfire surrounded a freight train near Armstrong, Ontario. The workers said the fire was very close and asked for help. Canadian National Rail said all the workers got out safely. The company stopped train work in the area for now.
On Wednesday, more than 100 fires were burning in Ontario. Across Canada, 838 wildfires were burning. A fast fire badly damaged homes and other buildings in the Namaygoosisagagun First Nation in northern Ontario. Smoke also covered Toronto. The city had very bad air, and some outdoor events closed.
The smoke may move into US cities over the next few days. People are worried about New Jersey, where the World Cup final will take place on Sunday. Officials told people to stay inside and not do hard exercise outdoors. New York City will give out free KN95 masks. Officials do not think the smoke will be as bad as it was in 2023.
